1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

WEB5 GbR Agentur für Web & Design
Robert-Hartl-Str. 43
86316 Friedberg
Germany

Email: info@web5.de
Phone: +49 (0)821 4441093

We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as the legal requirements for doing so do not apply to us.

2. Core principle: the app works without an account

Metropolquiz requires no registration, no user account and no sign-in. We do not operate any servers of our own that the app transmits data to. All game content (images, graphics, city data) is bundled inside the app and is not downloaded at runtime.

The only processing in which data leaves your device happens through the integrated Google AdMob advertising network (see section 4).

3. Data stored locally on your device

The app stores the following information exclusively on your own device (in UserDefaults on iOS, in the app's SharedPreferences on Android). This data is not transmitted to us or to any third party:

DataPurposeRetention
Self-chosen player name Attributing a score in the leaderboard Until the leaderboard is cleared or the app is uninstalled
Score, selected round length, game mode, date of play Displaying the local leaderboard Until the leaderboard is cleared or the app is uninstalled
Selected language (German/English) Remembering your language preference between launches Until the app is uninstalled

The player name is freely chosen. You are under no obligation to enter your real name – a nickname is sufficient.

Deletion: You can clear the leaderboard at any time directly in the app using the "Clear leaderboard" function. Uninstalling the app deletes all locally stored data completely.

Because this data never leaves your device, no processing by us takes place in this respect.

4. Advertising via Google AdMob

To fund this free app we display advertisements served by Google AdMob. For users in the European Economic Area and Switzerland the provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

4.1 Data processed

When serving ads, Google may process in particular the following data:

4.2 Legal basis and consent

Before ads are shown for the first time, the app presents a consent dialog (Google "User Messaging Platform", UMP), where you decide whether to allow personalised advertising.

Withdrawal: You may withdraw or change your consent at any time with effect for the future via the privacy settings inside the app. You can additionally disable personalisation system-wide and reset or delete your advertising ID:

4.3 App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

On iOS the operating system additionally asks whether the app may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you decline, the advertising identifier (IDFA) is not read and only non-personalised ads are served.

4.4 Transfers to third countries

Google also processes data on servers in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; in addition, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR are in place.

4.5 Further information from Google

5. What we do not do

6. Links to external sites

The app contains links to external websites (e.g. to this privacy policy, the legal notice, and the app's listing in the respective app store). Tapping them opens your browser or the store app. From that point on, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies; we have no influence over their data processing.

7. Downloading via the app stores

When you download the app, the data required for that transaction is transmitted to the respective app store (in particular your user name, email address, customer number, the time of download and a device identifier). This processing is carried out solely by the store operator and lies outside our sphere of influence:

8. Your rights

With regard to personal data concerning you, you have the following rights against us:

An informal message to the email address given in section 1 is sufficient to exercise these rights.

Please note: since we do not store any personal data about you ourselves, we cannot provide information about the data held locally on your device – you can view and delete that yourself in the app at any time. For data processed by Google in the course of serving ads, please contact Google directly.

9. Right to lodge a complaint

Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is:

Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA)
Promenade 18
91522 Ansbach
www.lda.bayern.de
(Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision)

10. Children

The app is not specifically directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to this privacy policy

We will update this privacy policy whenever changes to the app or to the services it uses make that necessary. The version published here is the one that applies; the date of the most recent update is shown at the top of this page.
